Hello voters!
I hope you have voted or have a plan in place to do so today. If you voted by mail and have the option to track it in your state, check if it’s been accepted. If there’s any trouble with it, find out what your options are to cure the mistake. This is a high stakes election, to say the least. Make sure your vote counts.
If you have anxious energy today, consider phone banking for your House or (if you have one) Senate candidate, propositions you support (10 states have abortion-related ballot measures), or of course getting out the vote for the presidential race. Google “phone bank for …” and your preferred person/issue. It’s that simple. And it’ll make you feel better.
Above is the cheat sheet I made for tomorrow night. It’s obviously not comprehensive, but checking things off as they’re called feels a bit like crossing items off a to-do list, and I find when I have it laid out this way it’s easier to see the bigger picture.
I’m not going to make any predictions or spend too much time discussing what might happen after the election. I’m in wait-for-information mode. Do I think we could have a good idea of the presidential winner tomorrow night? I do.
But we also might not! Remember Pennsylvania can’t even start counting the by mail votes until tomorrow morning. Remember ballots have to arrive from military members and citizens living overseas. Remember we’re not likely to learn who won the House for daaaaaays.
I’ve spent the last many weeks in litigation land, looking at the dozens of lawsuits the Republican National Committee has filed challenging mail in voting procedures, reviewing 2020 post-election litigation with its preposterous voter fraud claims, and better understanding voter certification and how rogue election officials refusing to certify results will be thwarted. If and when all of that becomes relevant in the next few days, I’ll be here to get you up to speed and answer any questions.
It’s truly unfortunate that one of the main stories of the day is likely to be lies spread about the security of our elections and voter fraud. So let me leave you with this to share as necessary: 7 Facts About Voting, and Myths being Spread About Them. (Here’s the Insta carousel version, written by yours truly.)
In the meantime, in elections they talk a lot about running out the tape. If you have anything left to give to help secure the future you want, today is the today. This is the moment. Thank you for voting.
